And it came to pass, that musicians of the world started asking: "What the hell is Acid Jazz?" Then, I took the liberty of putting together a compilation that would finally push the question into unanswerability. To "What the Hell is Jazid?", hammered John Zorn with the Japanese wave cult band "Friction", Bill Laswell and Sonny Sharrock took apart a piece by Japan punks "The Stalin", Uli Beckerhoff sailed dreamily through mountains of computer- wrecks; and then, there was a mob of honest trash jazzers called "III.Art". Brave and virtuously they fought against weighty machine beats. A fight so ferocious, it could hardly be trumped. But they came through. Tara!! SWIM What demounted this undecided fight, was the unruly resolute "SWIM TWO BIRDS:-Strengthened and no longer wound able. The CD not serious", was our first big cooperative work, 1989 with 16 track method, analogue inside a week recorded and mixed. Although during the "Jazid" production the intake of nutritions was fully neglected, on "not serious" we at least consulted the Becker snack bar near the studio. There, one seasoned the chips with a trace of red pepper... Not only an interesting change of colour to the normal musicians food... The result was accordingly explosive! As can be heard on... "not serious" During the making of "Apsion" the band had to fight against really serious addiction problems. The pusher, Peter Apel, very soon got everybody fixed on wholemeal bread with shrimps in garlic sauce, or, if you wanted, hering in dill cream. And as drink, house multivitamine juice and soda enriched with yeast tablets. All right! Bodybuilding nutrition was in those days hard to come by would I have recommended a live mix direct two track digital recording. After two hieratic and oxygen deficient sessions, at three days ago, in a room that couldn't offer room for mere sheet of music... it was ready. The CD "Apsion". The work that bestowed "SWIM TWO BIRDS" with their first international success. Accordingly manifold was the catering for the production "Bloody Thumb Cookbook". But more of that later. Much much later … Then, to give the nasty despotic producer's image fresh calorie rich nutriment, I sent the band unto the 4th floor unto Bremen's Slaughterhouse Tower (complete with equipment). There, after a search of three months, which took us to every concert hall, carpet store, practice cellar and other acoustically interesting localities, was to be found THE ROOM which would allow a band with such dynamic extremes, to be recorded under a double stereo microphone method. Reverb, echo, and pitch effects on the horns were sent into the room through guitar amplifiers, stereo image movements were done on foot. Fore instance, on "MissFarina Martin had to walk with his tenor horn, at a lengthy pace and speed around the "AMS Soundfield. Under headphones a delight-(...thanks Martin). But who's interested in technical details in the light of the culinary specialities, which, because of a double birthday during he 4 day production time, were richly laid on the table. Smoked turkey breast, fish specialities from the house of Kähler, Spanish olives, filled Turkish pastries, fried chicken, liver pate. To that, selected wines and, to crown it all, 7 year old Cuban Havana Club rum...! I love this band. P.S.: Whatare we having to eat at the next production?
