CONTROL
SIGNAL
ONCE AGAIN, TODAY, I’M FILLED
WITH THOSE VAGUE AND POWERFUL ENERGIES
ON SUCH DAYS I MUST FIGHT AGAINST IT’S WILL IT WANTS TO DO WANT I DON’T
SOMETIMES I SIT INSIDE AND LISTEN TO IT FUNCTIONING TODAY IT’S STRONG, LIKE AN ANIMAL
IT WANTS TO PROVE THAT I’M NOT HUMAN I WAIT INSIDE
I MUST CHOOSE, TODAY
AND MAKE IT DO WHAT I WANT
IT’S NOT SOMETHING TO WE MAY ASK AND DO SHALL IT WAS AND SHOULD IT WERE AND TO BE ASKED NOT.
THE THING ITSELF IS SOMETHING FOR ITSELF INSIDE US AND CANNOT SHOULD NOT BE CONTROLLED.
THE FASCIST INSIDE US MUST BE KILLED.
DON’T CONTROL YOURSELF.
KILL YOURSELF WHEN IT HAPPENS OR SOMEONE WILL DO IT FOR YOU.
IS IT NOT TRUE?
DOES IT NOT EXIST?
DO WE NOT SEE IT? SHOULD WE NOT DO IT?

The Bremen band Les Rabiates relies on vinyl, namely 180 gram, black vinyl of the highest quality. Last year, the band already released a mini-album in LP format with “Destination Unknown”. Now, the second coup follows with “Le Monde est à toi” (released on the Bremen label Fuego). Mind you, it is a mini-LP that runs at 45 rpm, so only contains six songs and has a playing time of a good 23 minutes.
Les Rabiates On “Destination Unknown”, Les Rabiates stage a crashing, driving, and then tenderly lyrical dark rock in singer/songwriter style, in which the color black predominates: Here, Cohen, Cave and Cash are sitting on the Velvet Underground sofa in Warhol’s Factory – the latter mainly because CaLi’s voice is somewhere between Nico and Patti Smith. Les Rabiates are also lounging on this sofa, and they feel right at home here. The lyrics are in English and Spanish, although the composer Achim Gätjen found his inspiration not in Spain, but – surprise!! – in Greece. Read More

Les Rabiates & Artur Becker “The dead man in the cemetery goes home”
The band Les Rabiates (aka Swim Two Birds) and Artur Becker can now look back on an eventful past – numerous live performances in Germany and Poland since 2007 and the successful CD production “A Kiosk with Eleven Million Nights” from 2009.
After a ceasefire, the musicians (Achim Gätjen, Ralf Benesch and Jens Ahlers) are returning with their enfant terrible, the German-Polish poet, with their current CD The Dead Man in the Cemetery Goes Home being a kind of back-to-the-roots journey: The recordings for this album were made in 2006 – at the junction between Swim Two Birds and the later Les Rabiates, and if you like, they document the first meeting with the writer, poet and essayist Artur Becker.
Les Rabiates & Artur Becker is a furious combination of border-crossing music and divisive poetry, influenced by current jazz trends and subterranean rock, an explosive mixture of eloquent, sometimes subversive lyrics and a bubbling, stylistically wildly rampant sound. The musical result can no longer be clearly classified: with its polka passages and reggae rhythms, which are also mixed with goose-step marches or apparent Volga romanticism, and the rock n punk offensives, this is no longer jazz, but rather a derivative of all sorts of things, which, in combination with Becker’s verses, is always on the trail of urban fury and madness.
